To build a fire
Jack London's "To Build a Fire" is a rather long story. I do however feel like i can relate to the cold man in the story. I relate the man in the story to a bad day i might have in my life. Seeing how i do not endure the trecherous cold or alot of other problems this man has, i do feel we can relate. I see a bad day like a fight with a parent or friend or a problem that might overcome me as the freezing cold in this mans life. The cold is something that you dont wish upon or want around, it just hits you and you must take it. This is resemblant to much drama in life. It is a sad even when one must keep their food wrapped under their shirt and coat just to keep it from freezing. This to me is like a goal i would like to accomplish in life. To reach the goal you must work and the road wont be easy but when finally their, the reward is endless. This i feel is similar to being starving, trudging through the ice and snow counting the seconds until you can devour your treat. The measure of cold is very bluntly given to us as the author states that "the spittle froze in the air". This is crazy to think that your saliva could freeze before hitting the ground. Aside from the terrible weather conditions, the man is alone, this is a sad feeling. To keep occupied, tobbacco is his choice. His beard turns to an amber trial as he cannot clear his mouth while spitting the tobbacco. The cold is so great that his mouth freezes in its shape. His body was tested and the weather was a bully. His feet were weary and his emotions were on the edge. This is a lfie changing event in ones life. This story shows how strong mother nature truly is and how such a disasterious thing can break a man and in general walk all over us.
